Copy
A copy in printmaking is a print that has been impressed with a duplicate (copied)
plate. In the past a great deal of copies were made especially in the 15th and
16th centuries. Such copies were not forbidden as long as they were not signed by
the author of the original, a thing that was done by Marc-Antonio Raimondi for some
Dürer prints and forced Dürer to defend himself against such pirating.
In the present day no copies are allowed and those that do exist are fraudulent ones.
Reproductions* using photomechanical processes are not considered to be copies at all.
