Deep etching
The last etching done in multiple bitings. This last etching isolates the relief parts of the printing plate*. Such etching might be done manually (as in the first steps) or then by photochemical means. Deep etching is meant to protect the whites from the inking roller.[* gillotype , photo-engraving].
