Depot legal
In France the dépôt légal requires that one or more copies of all printed
matter "publicly sold or distributed" be deposited in the National Library. In
France prints have been subjected to the dépôt légal ever since the reign
of Francis I. This ruling was then confirmed and reinforced by Louis XlV.
