Embossing
Generally
speaking embossing is a kind of impression on paper, cloth, leather,
cardboard, etc. which results in a strong relief. Embossing is often
done using hot irons, the parts that are crushed resulting in
hollows. This technique is often used for decorative purposes. In
printmaking it is an impression taken from the plate without any ink.
A deep relief structure is easily obtained with
photopolymer
plates and so they print beautifully as
embossings.
