facsimile
- [1} Print that is the exact reproduction of an original drawing. A facsimile
print is the opposite of an interpretative print.
- [2] In woodcutting facsimile is the technique of faithfully rendering an original
line drawing as opposed to tone value cuts which attempt to render the effects of
brush strokes. Facsimile engraving was much in vogue during the 19th century and was
done on end grain blocks (wood-engraving).
