felts
Cloths made of wool which are laid over the plate (covered with the sheet of paper
to be printed) in order to distribute and soften the pressure of the printing cylinder.
Felts also prevent the indention from being excessive. Bosse, in his treatise,
pointed out that the felts should be recessed one behind the other so that the roller
of the press be able to "catch" them properly. Felts must be kept clean and supple.
The reader will find in the article on blankets (a more generic term for felts) a
more detailed account.
Polymetaal keeps many sizes of blankets in stock.
