french muslin
A fine, light cotton cloth used for
wiping intaglio plates. French muslin or mousseline with wide mesh
(cheese cloth or butter muslin) is used for fine wiping while the stiff muslin that
is closely woven (also called tarlatan)
is used for the first wipings in which most of the undesired ink is removed.
At times one also uses mousseline de soie (a thin silk fabric of muslin-like
texture) or nylon muslin.
