guttapercha
A sap found in the inner bark of trees growing in the archipelago area of the Far East. It is not unlike rubber even though it does not have the elasticity of rubber. Gutta-percha is, however, quite flexible and can be modelled when heated. In the 19th century it was much used to make casts of intaglio and relief plates which were then submitted to various galvanic processes.
[gums and resins].
