halftone screen
In its acceptable sense, a series of ruled, etched and pigmented lines, evenly
spaced and of a definite number per inch (ranging from 50 to 400), the lines
etched on two glass plates and the plates then cemented together so that the opaque
lines cross eachother at right angles and form transparent aquare apertures between
the intersecting lines of equal width. Halftone screens are also made with a grain
formation and in the form of photographic films, the latter known as variable opacity
and contact screens, and embodying a formation of halftone dots.
