hot plate
Hot plates are used for a variety of purposes since they are used to warm copper plates before inking them (intaglio plate printing), to heat plates when they have been grounded, to heat and fix the grain in aquatint work, to heat the ink used in gillotype work, etc. In the past hot plates were heated with embers. Later on they were heated over a gas flame or a little alcohol burner, and at present they are usually heated electrically.
