Japanese
manner
A woodcutting technique which
originated in Japan. This manner has three specific
characteristics:
- The choice and preparation of the block are
carefully made.
- The image is drawn on light paper with India ink
and glued onto the block.
- The printing is done with water base inks.
The printing of Japanese manner woodcuts can be
carried out in different stages so as to print light
superimpositions.
The impression is done by hand using a
baren
(printing pad) and rubbing it on the back of the sheet of paper being
printed.
[wood].
