palming
In
intaglio printing, palming or paumage is the final procedure in
wiping the plate after inking it. The first wiping is done with cloth
(cheese-cloth,
tarlatan) but the finished touches are
done with the palm of the hand so as to ensure a perfect wiping of
the areas of the plate that are not meant to print.
