Hanco Etching inks and Conditioners

Some history
Hanco Ink’s history began in the 1940’s under the company name Handschy Chemical Company. Printmaking inks were a small fraction of what was produced. In the 1970’s the company name was revised to Handschy Industries. In 2009 the company was sold to Sun Chemical. Production was "reorganized". One of the employees decided to save the printmaking ink production as well as the excellent worldwide reputation of Hanschy printmaking inks and started in 2010 the Hanco company.

Hanco oil based etching inks are manufactured to exacting standards using only the finest raw materials. Hanco employees skillfully utilize state of the art equipment to produce each pound of ink with pride. The three roll mills are made with hardened steel rolls that finely grind each ink to develop exceptional strength and the cleanest printing characteristics revealing even the finest details in each print.

Hanco Etching Inks are also suitable for relief printing!

Light fastness -- "Archival"
Light fastness is measured with the "Blue Wool Scale". Originally this system was used to merasure to light fastness for textile (Blue Wool) but is now also applicable for printing inks and pigments. It is about the fading of colours through sun light. The degree of fading is expressed by a number between 1 and 8. 1 means fading very fast and 8 is perfect resistance against fading. 6 means that, after 2 years a light change in colour is visible (when not exposed directly to sun light). 6 and higher is regarded as fade resistant and lower than 6 will fade
Hanco uses the term "Archival" for etching inks with an excellent light fastness (between 6.5 and 8)
Etching ink without the term "Archival" have a light fastness between 5 en 6.

Hanco Ink proudly promotes clean, environmentally friendly printmaking. Formulated using high percentages of renewable raw materials, all inks that Hanco Ink produces are vegetable-based products allowing environmentally conscious printmakers to reduce their carbon footprint and their impact on the environment.
