The image here shows a JZE-100 etching press with a rotating blanket system. This can come in handy printing large editions. However, only one layer of blanket can be used. Printing in a "normal" way is often done with multiple layers of felt. Out of habit, hear say, or tradition people use often several layers of blankets. But, the thicker the layer of blankets, the more pressure is required to get the same result. Technically speaking is the "contact line" wider, which reduces the pressure per square cm or square inch. Use therefore as little blankets as possible. The only purpode of the blanket is to press the paper into the grooves. Only when you have very deep etched lines, or "gaufrages" will require more layers of blankets.. It is practical however to use two blankets, if moistened paper is used. The inner blanket with remain dryer, which prevents the top roller from rusting too much.
