Akua-Intaglio ink is the first water-based etching ink. It is an asset to any printmaking artist who wants to work with materials that are less harmful to themselves and the (work) environment. The ink has a high percentage of pigment and is made with gum-based binders. This allows sharp prints to be made on moistened paper. The paper can be moistened immediately after printing for the next print run. It is even possible to print on non-moistened paper, which can be advantageous for color printing. Wiping-off is much easier than with traditional oil-based intaglio inks.

Ink Stiffener used to be called Oil Converter. When mixed with Akua Intaglio, it adds "depth" and thickens the ink. It has a bright white color and a thick consistency. Clean with dish soap. Do not use in combination with Akua Liquid Pigment

Release Agent has three uses:
1) It is used to "release" a painting with Akua Kolor onto a plate when printing monotypes using a Pin Press.
2) It is used for "ghost printing". A "ghost print" is the second print of a monotype plate that has been inked only once. So it is a "light" version of the same image. Rolling "Release Agent" over the plate helps the transfer of the remaining ink to the paper.
3) Release Agent helps to "soften" the Metallic inks so that it releases more easily from the plate onto the paper. Roll the Akua Release Agent over the metallic ink that was applied to the plate.
Release Agent looks white in the jar, but on plate it is clear and colorless. it has a buttery consistency and can be cleaned with dish soap

Blending Medium is used for creating wash effects with Akua Kolor or Akua Intaglio. It is a clear liquid slightly thinner than Retarder. Blending medium also acts as a resist for viscosity monotypes. Cleans up with water.

Akua Retarder is used with Akua Liquid Pigment to slow drying rate and acts as a release. A few drops of Retarder are required when printing with Liquid Pigment onto dry paper. Ideal for use in environments that are extremely hot, cold and/or dry.
