Professional leather brayers, for inking or applying etching ground, Artools
The difference between leather rollers and rubber rolllers is the fact that leather can absorb moisture. It absorbs liquid and releases it again. The leather surface is also important when applying traditional etching ground to the plate. Furthermore, leather can be an advantage in inking lithostones. During inking there is water on the stone. Rubber is not able to absorb this water. The water will therefore partially emulsify with the ink, so that the quality of the ink is reduced quickly. In a leather roller, this problem plays less because the water is partially absorbed by the leather and therefore does not emulsify with the ink. Characteristics:
