formic aldehyde; formol; formalith; oxymethylene; methanal A colourless gas, soluble in water, alcohol and ether. One of the chemicals in silver spray solutions used for metallic coating of electrotype moulds ans also used in certain plastics for rubber and plastic platemaking. Formula: HCHO. Latin name: solutio formaldehydi.
