plate
warmer
Plate warmers are used for a variety of
purposes. They are used to slightly warm copper plates in order to
ink them. They are also used to apply grounds, to heat the dust grain
in the aquatint process and to heat inks in the
gillotype
proces. In the past, plate warmers were
heated with embers. Later they were heated with gas or with alcohol
burners. At present most plate warmers are heated electrically.
