Resin dust boxes

Resin dust boxes are used for creating aqua shades. With these boxes, resin powder or asphalt powder can be applied to an etching plate. After the powder particles have melted, the plate can be etched and printed. Depending on the amount of powder, a shade of gray will appear in the print.

This is a (poor) rendering of a Goya aquatint. Goya used this technique a lot and discovered the enormous expressive possibilities of this technique.
