Conditioners for Liquid Pigment (Akua Kolor) (Monotype)

  • Extender is used to restore (slightly) dried out Liquid Pigment.
  • Tack Thickener is used to give the ink a deeper gloss and to print without a press. Slowly pour the Liquid Pigment into the Tack Thickener; it is always easier to mix a thinner liquid with a thicker liquid.
  • To make a thicker transparent ink, add Liquid Pigment to Transparent Base.
  • Add Retarder to Liquid Pigment to extend the drying time and thus the processing time.
  • Use Blending Medium to get a "washed drawing effect".
  • Akua Oil Converter can be applied to a monotype to deepen the colors and get a "satin" effect.

Akua Retarder is used with Akua Liquid Pigment to slow drying rate and acts as a release. A few drops of Retarder are required when printing with Liquid Pigment onto dry paper. Ideal for use in environments that are extremely hot, cold and/or dry.

Blending Medium is used for creating wash effects with Akua Kolor or Akua Intaglio. It is a clear liquid slightly thinner than Retarder. Blending medium also acts as a resist for viscosity monotypes. Cleans up with water.

Extender is used to thin Akua Liquid Pigment if it has become too thick, for instance, it will re-constitute “air thickened” ink. It is to be used with Akua Liquid Pigment only and not with Akua Intaglio. It is thick liquid in consistency, and transparent in color.

Release Agent has three uses:
1) It is used to "release" a painting with Akua Kolor onto a plate when printing monotypes using a Pin Press.
2) It is used for "ghost printing". A "ghost print" is the second print of a monotype plate that has been inked only once. So it is a "light" version of the same image. Rolling "Release Agent" over the plate helps the transfer of the remaining ink to the paper.
3) Release Agent helps to "soften" the Metallic inks so that it releases more easily from the plate onto the paper. Roll the Akua Release Agent over the metallic ink that was applied to the plate.
Release Agent looks white in the jar, but on plate it is clear and colorless. it has a buttery consistency and can be cleaned with dish soap
