Like the JH-series these presses are directly driven by the lower roller, which has a detachable star wheel. Heavier construction and an adjustable plate guide being the visible differences, the JS-series presses top roller is also spring mounted and can be raised by loosening the two spindles. Leather or cardboard shims can be placed under the spindles, thus providing more flexibility during printing The rollers turn on ball-bearings, which makes the press easy to operate. A gearing is not yet needed, although most people prefer a geared press when the width exceeds 60 cm (24"). The wider the press is, the more difficult it is to control the turning of the wheel in such a manner that a constant printing speed is obtained. Differences in printing speed may show in an unequal transfer of the ink to the paper. This press is also adapted to printing woodcuts and linocuts because of the above mentioned springs. Two types of stands are available for these presses; stands with, or stands without casters. The stands can be dismantled and they are manufactured from square piping. The casters can be blocked in both directions. The nylon caster wheels have a diameter of 12,5cm (5") to allow an easy moving of the press. A wooden shelf in the stand is optional.
