This etching ground from Huber is not hard — you don't get any splintering line edges — and not soft, like a soft ground. But it is soft enough to be able to draw in it smoothly and without having to use force with an etching needle. Draws very nicely, fine lines are possible.

TIP! If you pour this etching ground, you get a very nice smooth layer.

• consistency: liquid
• color: brown/black
• density: 0.88 g/cm³
• flash point: 42°C
• Apply evenly with a soft brush or pour directly onto the platequick-drying, hardens after evaporation of the white spirit essence washable and soluble with white spirit (-essence).

This products is used in two situations:

• When etching: Covering varnish for the back or front of the etching plate. It cannot be used as an etching ground, because the layer remains elastic.
• At Lithography: Hence the name "Auswaschtinktur". Senefelder used this as "Auswaschtinktur". It is intended to enhance the image on the stone. After making the drawing, before rolling in and printing, at a certain point the stone is rubbed with a few drops of auswaschtinktur.
